Manufacturing Systems

Manufacturing systems are related, organized and interacting elements. Whether they are people, materials, machines, management styles or procedures. All of this makes the materials or information transform into a product or service that is meant to be sold. Once this cycle is finished and repeated, when the systems used for industrial business production are analyzed, the processes can be optimized or transformed to be more efficient in costs, delivery times and quality.

According to the physical layout, there are four types of classic and two modern manufacturing systems that are rapidly gaining acceptance in the industry.

The classic systems are:

  1. Production by project or on demand.
  2. Intermittent or batch production.
  3. Mass production.
  4. Linear or continuous flow production.

The modern systems are:

  1. Linked cell system (Cellular manufacturing system).
  2. Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS).
